Joe Horowitz
Head of Cambridge International & EAL

Hi there, I’m the coordinator for the international program, I also teach IGCSE English, Math and Business Studies.

Born in London, UK, I finished school with A-Levels in English, Maths and Art, and went on to study Fine Art at the University of Plymouth. After many years working in the service industry as a manager of bars and restaurants, I decided to change careers and retrained as a teacher, attaining a Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching. I’ve been in Cambodia for seven years now, and have worked at this school for all seven of those years!

I’ve seen the school go through many changes in that time, but the transformation into a Cambridge International school is the most exciting yet – it means we can now offer real qualifications, accepted by major universities all over the world.

My philosophy of teaching is ‘make it effective, make it fun’, because I believe (in fact I know!) that children learn much better when they are happy and enjoying themselves.

Will Barnard
Head of English and Humanities

Hello I’m Will and I’m excited to be teaching English at Grand Mount starting this year. I hold a BA in Modern History and Politics from the University of Leicester and several coaching, teaching and psychology diplomas.

Before getting into teaching I have had several careers, including with FTSE 100 companies in the UK to starting and running my own video production company and most recently leading community based youth expeditions all over the world.

I love helping people succeed and I can’t wait to bring this enthusiasm of learning to students of all ages here at Grand Mount.

Sean Curtis
Teacher of English and Humanities

I am extremely excited to be welcomed as the newest member of the teaching faculty at Grand Mount International School. I have lived and worked as a teacher in Cambodia for over 5 years now, in both the province of Siem Reap and now the capital, Phnom Penh.

I was born in the historic maritime town of Portsmouth, England. I spent my early life growing up between this wonderful, historical city and the area of Muswell Hill, North London. I obtained my A levels in English Language and Media Studies at college after leaving high school, and then went on to obtain a National Vocational Qualification in Activity Leadership whilst working as an Educational Activity Instructor. I later went into account management within the financial and recruitment industries. Eventually managing accounts on behalf of many blue-chip corporations within the UK, as well as managing my own teams and campaigns. I gained many skills working within these fields that would later serve me well as an educator.

I was always drawn by the culture and history of Southeast Asia, particularly that of Cambodia, so I decided to come to teach here as a volunteer back in 2011. Upon my return to the United Kingdom I realised that teaching English as a foreign language was not only the career path I wanted to follow, but something I was very passionate about. I decided to move to Cambodia in 2015 to teach full-time. Over the course of teaching in Cambodia I have taught ESL, English for Business and worked as an IELTS Proficiency Test Trainer.

In my free time I enjoy reading, as I have a keen interest in history, geography and anthropology. I like getting out of the city when I can and experiencing the areas of outstanding natural beauty, the culture and historical sites that Cambodia has to offer. I am also fascinated by wildlife and I have always been passionate about the conservation of animals.

I am very positive about embarking on this educational journey with Grand Mount International School, and I believe that GMIS offers a sophisticated, well-structured and dynamic approach to education.

Mrs Divina Kennedy
Head of Early Years

I am from the Philippines. I am a graduate of Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education Major in English.

Before coming to Cambodia I taught in an NGO in the Philippines and became the Headteacher. I also taught university students in an NGO in Battambang province before coming to Phnom Penh.

I have been teaching in this school since 2010. I have taught different programmess and levels since I started working here. With these experiences I have adapted different ways to teach which helped me to improve and develop my teaching methods and styles

Teaching is my passion because I believe that education changes a person’s whole being and you become a part of that (hoping they will all be successful). It makes you become proud of what your students’ have achieved (present or in the future) that’s why I see to it that learning takes place whenever I teach.

Miss Princella Anum
Head of Maths, Science and ICT

Hello there, I am Princella from Karachi, Pakistan. I graduated from St. Joseph’s College for Women with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business.

I have travelled to different South-East Asian countries, including Thailand, Malaysia, Burma, and the Maldives but settled in Cambodia with my family. We opened our own Pakistani restaurant, in 2017. I also practice the ancient art form of Henna Design, as well as painting and now I’m excited to teach these skills to my students.

I became a teacher for a very simple (albeit perhaps somewhat cliché) reason – I want to make a difference. While there are many fields in which I could accomplish this goal, I feel that education is the one in which I can have the greatest impact.

Mr Josua Conde
Teacher of Maths

I am from the Philippines and graduated at St. Louise de Marillac College of Sorsogon with a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education,  majoring in Mathematics.

I’ve been teaching here in Cambodia since 2018 and am grateful to share what I’ve learned from my previous students with those here at Grand Mount.

I gain a sense of reward observing my students growing academically each moment, rather like watching a caterpillar become a butterfly, and do hope that both I and my students will learn, have fun and be successful together.

I believe that teaching is a very fulfilling experience as I too can learn so much which brings me brand new knowledge everyday, and that we should ‘Teach for the future not just for a moment.’

Ms Amefil Antero-Tacio
Teacher of ICT

Hello, I’m Amefil, a Filipino citizen hailing from the northern part of the Philippines, Baguio City. I finished Bachelor of Science in Nursing and I was a hospital nurse for some time but due to unfavorable circumstances I shifted to teaching, which I eventually learn to love.

Before coming to Cambodia, I used to be an ESL tutor to Korean, Chinese and Japanese students in our locality. That’s where my teaching career began.

I am very excited to be a part of the GMIS team. This will be a place where I can continue to help students learn in a fun, creative and safe environment to contribute to their holistic growth and well being.

I have been working here for 6 years, since this school was Arizon and upgraded to Grand Mount International School.

I love teaching because it is my wish since I was young. And I also enjoyed working with children and nice people here. I am very proud to have a great opportunity to work here and I strongly believe that GMIS will become the best school in Cambodia.

Miss Meas Chanleakhena
Teacher of Early Years and English

I am leakhena, I was born in Phnom Penh. I have completed a Bachelor’s Degree of English and Art (TEFL) at Western University and Cam TESOL.

I worked as a Kindergarten teacher 2 years at Sovannaphumi School. And I have been teaching at Grandmount International School as a kindergarten teacher for 7 years.

I love teaching kindergarten! My mission as a teacher to help children discover the joy of learning and to help each child develop a strong belief in his or her own ability to achieve.

I am really excited to work at GMIS. I love my school, my students, and my colleagues. I strongly believe that I will try to make my school more successful and try to improve my students to be good Human Resources.

Ms Noemi Mina
Teacher of Early Years and English

Hi! I was born and raised in the Philippines and am a degree holder in B.S. in Computer Technology.

I have been working here as a teacher here in Cambodia since 2015. Teaching from young ones to teenagers have taught me a lot of things. One of them is being passionate. Caring for my students has given me joy and hope that they will be successful and I have been part of it.

Being able to teach has also been a great experience for me. While teaching, I discovered that I can be a friend, a mother and a person that my students can talk to. And I believe that “hardship they will receive today, success they will gain tomorrow”.

Ear Mama
Teacher of English as an Additional Language (EAL)

I am Mama, an EAL 1 teacher. I have completed a Master’s Degree of Art in English from Norton University.

Before working at GMIS, I was a primary school teacher at American School for one year. I also worked at Hello American School as a part-time teacher.

I love teaching, and I love GMIS. I have been working here since 2010. I’ve learned many things from my work and my colleagues. Also, children here are lovely and friendly. I love them and I want to provide them with an excellent learning to help them to improve their English abilities.

I am having a wonderful opportunity to teach Cambridge Curriculum to my students this year. This is a good change for my students. I will try my best to help them to develop their learning and to have the best quality of learning.

Ms Krista Maravilla
Teacher of English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Hi there, I’m Krista from Philippines. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Arts majoring in English. I am proud to call Grand Mount International School my new home. I have been teaching for 5 years and I have always enjoyed helping others especially young learners to learn and grow.

For me, teaching encompasses far more than passing information from teachers to students. Teachers should be illuminators who provide their students not only with interesting and useful material, but also with the visions of where they might end up if they learn well.

Rita Pierson once said that every child deserves a champion- an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they can possibly be

Mrs Oum Sovanny
Teacher of English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Hi, I’m Sovanny. I was born in Phnom Penh. I have completed a Bachelor of Art in Professional Communication Skills from the Institute of Foreign Languages (IFL) and Cam TESOL from NYIS.

Working with children is my passion. I completed volunteer work at an NGO and English private schools before starting a career as a teacher here, where I have been for 8 years as an elementary teacher which gives basic skills to students. From these experiences, I have gained many skills as well as knowledge and methods that make my students focus on my lesson effectively.

I hope that I will continue my teaching career with a new experience with the Cambridge International Curriculum which sets a global standard for education. I strongly believe this curriculum has clear objectives and will be progressive and fun – . I love to have fun with my teaching, and I am sure my students will enjoy my teaching too.

Miss Jhea Mae Dela Cruz
Exams Officer and Teacher of Science

Hello! I am JM and was born in the Philippines. I Acquired a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Major in Marketing Management with Honors, and then worked as a Technical Support Representative as my first job. I was able to teach primary level and pre-kindergarten students from my previous schools which led me to become a Secondary English Language teacher here in Phnom Penh.

At first, I found it difficult teaching here because of the language barrier, but getting to know the students every day and sharing all my knowledge with them has made me feel enthusiastic about their learning. I started to understand and realize that I can also learn from them and it improves my personality, making me a better person each day. I can’t wait to be a Teacher of Science to my students this year!

I also love dancing and arts which I can also share with my students.

Ms Alex Bracamonte
Teacher of English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Greetings, I am Alexandria M. Bracamonte. Born and raised in the Philippines. I took up Bachelor in Secondary Education, I graduated my bachelor’s degree (Class of 2019) at Northwestern Visayan Colleges Kalibo Aklan Philippines. In my school days, I have been participating in many organizations for almost 6 years and I really love helping, educating young people through the help of many NGO’s & NON NGO’s in my country.

Teaching is a very noble profession, it requires a lot of effort and patience to become effective and productive teacher. Teachers are not present just to teach children, but they serve as a resource person, a mother, a friend and most especially a model of every student.

I will do my best to help young people and I am very excited to meet my future students.
A great philosopher once said, it takes a village to raise a child.
God bless!

Ms Arianne Jong
Teacher of Maths

I graduated from the Philippines with a Degree from the Institute of Culinary Arts de la Salle and then completed my training in Miami, Florida, US.

Cambodia is therefore the  second country I have lived in after the Philippines and I’m grateful to be given a chance to share my experiences with you here at Grand Mount.

I have developed a certain bond with my students and it makes me feel very rewarded every time my students accomplish something new.  I always believe that you can never say you cannot do something if you HAVEN’T tried it first!  The first step can sometimes be difficult but it is always worth taking the risk, because you never know until you have had a go!
